Too expensive

Post by Mavis2021 » 04 Nov 2022, 09:28

My husband lost his job and we had to move. Now with his new job we are struggling to pay for mavis's enzymes. I'm a stay at home mom in Canada and we have to ship out her enzymes as well and it's getting too much. We don't know what to do but get rid of her and possibly give her to a family that can afford her.
My son is devasted and I'm definitely looking for more ideas to keep her. If you have any ideas please let me know.

Hi Eden, I am so sorry to hear of the down luck. I asked the question of another administrator who supplies enzymes about options in Canada:

"The only thing in Canada available is raw pancreas or Creon. Pank Aid and Viokase Tablets were the other options but both on back order. Shipping to Canada is expensive and if they can pick up in the states it helps with the cost and hand carry in. Ordering larger amounts to only pay one brokerage fee instead of ordering each month helps but some can not afford that so they are paying almost double. Add in the 15% taxes in Canada on a $200 purchase and its a lot."

There are folks on here who use both Creon and raw pancreas hopefully they will respond. Hard times everywhere for sure.

CREON is fairly reasonable in Canada. If you do decide to get CREON.... we will help you figure out the best dosing routine for your dog..... just post here on the forum.

I am also in Canada, and have to agree it is very expensive.

I have recently switched to Creon. It's not going to save money; but I don't have to worry about ordering from US. With the number of orders from the US being seized in Customs, I was pretty much holding my breath until I saw the order cleared Customs.

I do like Creon. Pick it up at the local pharmacy. No need to order 2 to 3 weeks before your going to run out. And no incubating!

Cost appears to be exactly the same, by the time you factor in shipping, import and exchange costs. The only drawback is that you need to figure out the ideal dose. .much like when you first started.

thanks Andrea for sharing your positive experience with CREON.... i feel bad for folks in Canada... the options to get enzymes for their EPI dogs is getting more difficult :( and at least CREON is a viable option.

If it was only 15%, it would not be so bad! If you order 2 jars of Pantenex, or one 250g of Enzyme Diane, import fees are $35. (That's over the $50 CDN for shipping). If you order 4 jars of Pantenex, import fees are $95. (Again not including $50 shipping).

That ain't no 15%!! Either that or someone at Canada Customs Needs a new calculator 🥵 Canadian government is absolutely stupid when it comes to enzymes!!

I'm in Ontario, Canada. I order Enzyme Diane, which is expensive, but lasts infinitely longer than the Pank-Aid I was getting from the veterinarian before all this "virus" thing started. It's a lot up front, but I find I'm actually saving a lot of money ordering from Enzyme Diane, and the product is far superior.
Montgomery was born 20 March 2012. He eats extra lean ground chicken, lean ground pork and lean ground beef completed with Alnutrin and freeze-dried chicken liver, with hard-cooked egg. He gets two size zero capsules of Enzyme Diane's enzymes at each of his six meals, and a size four capsule of Tylan three times a day. He's a fierce little Spitfire with a roaring Merlin engine.

Thanks V for sharing that, EnzymeDiane's enzyme products are excellent.... my Izzy used EnzymeDiane's enzymes for 14 years.... and i am forever thankful... for the great cost savings, availability and great customer service... HOwever... i feel so bad for folks in Canada.... nowadays dealing with the customs can be a real pain ... or a breeze... you just don't know which way it is going to go. SOOOooooo frustrating! Sometimes i feel like everything has been turned upside down.

Because Enzyme Diane uses UPS, they get through fairly quickly. I don't like the extra charge to get it across, but even with that, it's still cheaper and more reliable than the Pank-Aid was, and Montgomery is much healthier and happier on the Enzyme Diane, too. His completer, Alnutrin, though...If you're outside the USA and want to order it, you have to e-mail them and ask for an invoice because they've had some issues. Luckily (knock on wood) we haven't so far. I think they send it by Pony Express, though, because it takes forever to get to the border. We've always carerfully managed his supplies, though, so we always order waaaaay ahead of actually needing it.
