Creon dose finally established!

Post by Chance » 11 Nov 2022, 13:04

Well I think I finally might have my Creon dose tweaked! He's dialed in at Creon 45,000 for 3 meals per day.

Last week we knew that 50,000 (2 x 25,000) was too much. And 37,500 (1.5 x 25,000) was not enough.

I went to 45,000 (1 x 25,000 and 2 x 10,000) for a few days, as that worked before the vet said easier to just give 2 of the 25's! He seemed good there, but wasn't going poop every day. I wondered if perhaps it was still a tad high, so yesterday I gave 40,000 (1.5 x 10 and 1 x 25). This morning he had a very decent poop, but a lot of tiny pieces of lung meat - yesterday's lunch clearly visible! A lot of tummy noises last night, which isn't his normal.

Going forward today, I am officially locking it in at 45,000. With the Creon 10 and 25 being the only dosing options available here, it's not feasible to try anything between 40,000 and 45,000. (Creon 10 capsules are tiny. It's impossible to try to get smaller increments).

So 45k it is! It's expensive; but it's slightly better than enzyme Diane or Pantenex imported and no worries with Canada Customs being stupid! I 😂

It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

YEA, Andrea! Keep in touch, and let us know if further tweaking is needed. This sometimes happens. ---Pam
Tucker was a shepherd/lab mix--- TLI 1.3, Folate 9.7, Cobalamin 666, Lipase 38. Took Diane's Enzymes 4 teaspoons/day, Wonderlabs B12 one capsule per day, and Tylan 1/16 teaspoon/ morning (to hold SID at bay). Taste of the Wild High Prairie, 1 1/2 cups/day, with a total of 4 cups of Fresh Pet. Stopped eating everything in sight, and went from 60 to 85 pounds! Tucker was my boyfriend, and my husband was OK with that. Tucker succumbed to hemangiosarcoma, but we cherished every day we had with that wonderful, beautiful boy. I will always, always miss my sweet big boy.

Better how? Is the dog less sensitive to small changes? Or just because you have the magic number established?

Just curious, because even if I don't change doses, I kinda hope he won't always be soooo sensitive!
