When Nothng Has Changed....
...But your cat's stool suddenly starts smelling like burnt broccoli and onions. He's fine in and of himself, but I have no idea why he should suddenly do this!?
Montgomery was born 20 March 2012. He eats extra lean ground chicken, lean ground pork and lean ground beef completed with Alnutrin and freeze-dried chicken liver, with hard-cooked egg. He gets two size zero capsules of Enzyme Diane's enzymes at each of his six meals, and a size four capsule of Tylan three times a day. He's a fierce little Spitfire with a roaring Merlin engine.

Re: When Nothng Has Changed....
i wonder if the "burnt broccoli" smell could indicate SID getting out of control??????????? for whatever reason, you know how EPI works, sometimes it is hard to pinpoint the trigger....
Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

Re: When Nothng Has Changed....
He gets tylan three times a day, though, and he doesn't have the other signs of his SID flaring up. He does not have diarrhea. He eats like a horse. He runs around like a maniac, climbs me and wraps himself around my shoulders so that I look like an evil super villian. He's in a really good mood. Last time his SID flared up he was a flat cat. He wouldn't get out of bed. He stopped bathing himself. He lost control of his bowels. He refused to eat and had to be spoon-fed.

Re: When Nothng Has Changed....
If you figure it out, let me know! Chance just started with these silent "toots" with that smell. Poop is good; but comes out with that smell.
My initial thought was maybe Baytril (low dose). I took him off for a few days. No change. Put him back on, no change.
But it's no where near as offensive as the SIBO piewps!!

Re: When Nothng Has Changed....
When Montgomery lets one go, it smells strongly of the hard-cooked eggs in his food. This doesn't happen too often, but when it does, one can envision the green cloud forming just above the sleeping cat.
The burnt broccoli and onion-scented stool seems to be over with. Since we changed his diet, Montgomery no longer throws up hairballs, he passes them the way he's supposed to...Except there is nothing normal about Montgomery's digestion, so he often has trouble. He passed a large "wooly" and he seems to have gone back to normal. Perhaps it was fermenting hairball gas...?

That's good it passed! I don't expect hair balls is Chance's issue; but anything is possible.
We recently learned that his folate levels are very low. I wonder if that's the reason for him?...

Re: When Nothng Has Changed....
Chance's "onion" odor seems to be gone. I noticed last week that he doesn't smell anymore. The only change was adding the Folate supplement. No food changes.
I'm guessing the low folate must have affected digestion enough that it triggered that strange gas. His energy has improved as well.
I harped about running the EPI panel again was a waste of money. EPI ain't gonna fix itself, and responds well to B12 injections. But now I consider it money well spent!

glad to hear Montgomery is much better after the folate supplementation.
