reaction to enzymes ?

Post by ndimitru » 27 Feb 2023, 23:07

Huggin has been marching along fine since we got him on the right track. about a week ago he got this sore on his muzzle... going to the vet tomorrow but wondered if anyone has seen a topical reaction to enzymes in food?

Hi San,
Sometimes the enzymes do make sores on the nose and lip area. You can try wiping the face off with a wet napkin, give an ice cube or encourage water drinking to get the enzymes off the face.
You also can try putting the food on a flat plate before serving.
Hope the vet can provide relief!

Jill is correct, a lot of time the enzymes will create sores in the mouth or mouth bleeds..... BUT...... from the picture you posted... that doesn't look like something caused by the enzymes....

SOOOoooo glad you are taking him to the vet.... please keep us posted!
Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

Hi San,

Our Kolby got mouth sores and ulcers when he first started on the enzymes, but they did not look like Huggin's. Let us know what the vet says.

That's why I put Montgomery's enzymes into capsules. He had a huge ulcer on his tongue, and I don't think it was the only one (he didn't want us to look).
Montgomery was born 20 March 2012. He eats extra lean ground chicken, lean ground pork and lean ground beef completed with Alnutrin and freeze-dried chicken liver, with hard-cooked egg. He gets two size zero capsules of Enzyme Diane's enzymes at each of his six meals, and a size four capsule of Tylan three times a day. He's a fierce little Spitfire with a roaring Merlin engine.
