Looking for advice in ontario canada
Re: Looking for advice in ontario canada
Right. I'll watch the video I probably am missing something to make it easier to understand.
Thank you for explaining the difference.
Attached is a picture of the Viokace we're using at 3 tablets and the cotazym we're moving to.

hi Tina,
thanks for trying to post the pictures.... 1 did come thru, the other didn't... but that's okay...
THe Viokace you were using was not enteric coated, but the Cotazym that you will be using is enteric coated.... and as i explained previously in this thread ... you need a much lesser amount of the cotazym because of the enteric coating..
Also, thanks for writing me privately and i am glad i was able to clear things up for you

Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

First I want to thank Olesia and everyone for the great information and patience.
Final question. If you're using Creon and it's my understanding currently that the dosage isn't dependent on the weight of the dog or amount of food, what dose did you start?
Our bernese mountain dog weighs 110 lbs and is currently eating twice daily 2 cups of dry kibble.
We also give him 1 famotidine/pepcid prior to eating.
Is that still necessary?
Thanks again. Sorry for the back and forth.

I would start with one capsule opened and sprinkled atop the meal. Please make sure all little balls are consumed. Do that for each meal and note the next day how the poops are.
Does your dog still have acid reflux? If so I would keep up with the pepcid.
Keep an eye on the poop.

Re: Looking for advice in ontario canada
Thank you Jill. I honestly don't if he has acid reflux. From the beginning of his EPI diagnosis the vet suggested famotidine before meals.
I could be very wrong. I'm thinking it's to reduce the stomach acid and allow the crushed tablets we're using and or previously pank-aid to work better.
It's been part of what was recommended from the start.
Maybe he wouldn't need it enteric coated enzymes.
Thanks again. I'm grateful for the direction on the cotazym. I feel much more prepared now.
