Kolby is 10 today!

Post by Barb » 14 Apr 2019, 14:35

With much gratitude we celebrate Kolby's 10th birthday today. He pounced on his birthday bag, this morning, dove in head first, retrieved all the new balls that were in there, then appeared in every doorway in the house with one of them in his mouth inviting.....well, requesting.......ok, forcefully imploring us to throw it. He always chooses ball over food, but we did manage to give him an enzymed replica of a birthday cake, complete with candles and the number "10".....and much off-key singing.

We know none of this would have been possible without the support, advice, suggestions, knowledge, and generous sharing of all the good people on this Forum. We are so grateful to Olesia for creating such a wonderful place to help us care for our dogs.

We know how fortunate we are to have Kolby all these years.....he was diagnosed right after his first birthday, didn't respond well to any foods we tried, until we finally had to try a prescription diet (Royal Canin) which did work. We had many setbacks until we finally got the B12 balanced, and it seemed like smooth sailing but then we almost lost him again to Bloat during the summer of 2017. Obviously, he had more light to share because he miraculously survived the Bloat and the following surgery.

Through it all, he is cheerful, happy, hilariously funny, and ever the trickster. When he knows I have to travel to visit or take care of grandchildren, he starts hiding my shoes or various pieces of clothing that he knows I need to pack. On the other hand, he can be completely cooperative. Recently, he had some "hot spot" infections and we didn't want to give him antibiotics, so I used the topical treatment for quite a few weeks. When he would see me coming with the medicated cotton ball, he would lie down and lift his leg so I could apply the medicine.

We are all officially seniors in our house now and we often can't tell who is groaning the loudest when we get up or sit down. Kolby seems to be the one aging the most gracefully. He is ever our teacher.

We treasure every day with him.

Happy Birthday, Kolby.

Happy Birthday Kolby!
Wow! A full decade of a lovable, cuddly, energetic bundle.
Arya & Bran send their well wishes also.
Enjoy your birthday Kolby,
Christine :D
Arya & Brandon born March 17, 2013. Lab/Shepherd/ Border Collie mix.
Arya gets 1/4 can of Blue Buffalo. Be sure there are no peas in the food. Backyard BBQ, & Denali Dinner are some of the foods. Be sure the food is warm, but NOT HOT, as it will kill the enzymes. We mix 2 1/2 teaspoons EnzymesDiane powder into her food(including the kibble), Blue Buffalo Life Protection Formula, 2 cups(Chicken & Brown Rice). We incubate food for 30 minutes. After the incubation period add, 2 Metamucil capsules(broken open & sprinkled on food)& Rx vitamins for pets probiotic. We add The WonderLabs B12 & Slippery Elm at dinner only. Again, we agree that no two EPI pets are the same.

Happy belated birthday Kolby
Madelon, owned by DOC. DOC dx EPI 5/2015 = TLI < .4, B12 406; Folate >24. DOC taught me so much and together we battled and overcame EPI, food sensitivies, environmental allergies but we lost the cancer battle. DOC was dx with hemangiosarcoma 5/2022 and crossed the rainbow bridge July 24, 2022. He is and always will be the love of my life, my soulmate, my heart dog.
