B12 Preparation for Boarding

Post by M&BCutter » 04 May 2019, 10:49

This is Kona's pet-mom.

Kona was diagnosed a week ago and has been doing very well on Enzyme Diane. Shortly we will be kenneling her for a few days.

A question on preparation.

Right now, we feed her three times a day with enzymes letting them incubate for 30 minutes. And in the morning we give her B 12 - we break open the capsule and pour it on top of the incubated food.

I was thinking of making plastic bags with the enzyme sprinkled on the food. That was the kennel only needs to add water and let it sit.

Do you think it's okay if I break open the B12 capsule and mix it in the morning bags upfront? That would mean it would incubate with the enzyme.

I didn't know if incubation would impact the B-12 or vice versa. I assume not, but didn't know if anyone has done something similar to keep it easy for boarding.

Thanks!
Megan

I sprinkle the B12 as well, and I do it and let it incubate just as you are describing. I haven't had any trouble doing it that way, and my girl has been stable for years now. I think when you have to leave your pup in someone else's care it is easier to have it all prepackaged that way. Then there is less room for error.
Let us know how she does.

Riley is a 10 year old Labradoodle. She was diagnosed with EPI in 2014.
She currently eats Taste of the Wild, I cup in the morning, 2 cups in the evening, each meal with 1 Wonderlabs B12 sprinkled over her dinner. Enzymes are EnzymeDiane, 1 tsp per cup of food, mixed in home made bone broth. No other supplements or meds at this time.
Riley currently weighs about 44 pounds, which is pretty heavy for her.

I think it would be fine to do it that way - it doesn't have to be incubated but I don't think it will hurt if it is. It's so stressful leaving our pets. You may have some "off" poops when you return - try not to panic and give it a day or two to see if it corrects itself. If not, then I would try some slippery elm bark powder.

Hi Megan,

You are right. The simpler the better for those caring for your pup. When I go away, I fix similar bags......and this is to keep it simple for hubby! Kolby takes a B12 pill whole so he just has to put it in the food when he feeds him, but your way sounds fine.

Hope all goes well.
