Fatty deposit removed - allergy?

Post by MegW » 30 May 2019, 14:05

My Shilo just had a fatty deposit removed today because it was really bothering her with constant licking (groin area near vulva).
Her licking started around the time I had to find a new food because her old had major ingredient changes.
About 3 months ago I switched her to SportDogFood Elite Buffalo/herding dogs and she loved it. Her poops were never better! Same Enzyme Diane 6x 1 t per meal & home made kefir grains.
I also got a new batch of Enzymes about that time.
I work at a vets office as a receptionist and have gotten cTLI tests done recently and she is not in the clinical range for EPI anymore!
I have been treating her successfully with the Enzyme DIane 6x enzymes and "cooler" meat based foods over the years. 4% less fiber. She has been on a variety of foods over the past 5 years from fully homemade turkey and/or with dehydrated base meeting EPI suggested guidelines with no problems until recently.

HAS ANYONE EVER HAD ALLERGIES START AS A RESULT OF AN ENZYME BATCH OR LONG-TERM USE?

I am switching her food but not sure what to brand to try next.
(Something turkey based for inflammation reasons preferred)
I am also considering getting drastic and switching to Prozyme for a bit (plant based enzyme).
I have not had a SID/SIBO problem in a LONG TIME and give homemade kefir grains so hate to start SID again!
So many variables!
I have to wonder if she developed an intolerance to pork or diet that has a protein base that is too rich.
Thinking of trying SportDogFood Elite Turkey that is just turkey meal (no pork or buffalo) but has all the other grainfree/peafree ingredients OR Orijen Original (turkey/chicken)

My vet wants to put her on apoquel for just a couple weeks and has a good homeopathic topical cream to use as well.

While a pain, switching foods again is the easy part.
What are some good porcine enzyme alternatives if I have to go that route as well?
Beef? Plant based strong enough?

Hi. What were the cTLI, B12 and Folate test results? If your dog was not diagnosed with EPI then we don't recommend using enzymes and treating as if EPI long term as EPI masks many other conditions/diseases which if left untreated and properly diagnosed could have dire consequences. If your dog was diagnosed with EPI, then your dog will have EPI for life as the pancreas does not regenerate itself.

Unfortunately I have become way too familiar with and had to much research regarding food sensitivities and allergies as my boy developed them shortly after his EPI diagnosis when I switched his food to one that had menhaden fish meal. Dogs are like people in that they can develop and resolve sensitivities/allergies at any point in their life. If you believe it came from when you switched foods then I would compare the ingredients in the food you were feeding to the food you switched to and see if anything stands out.
Madelon, owned by DOC. DOC dx EPI 5/2015 = TLI < .4, B12 406; Folate >24. DOC taught me so much and together we battled and overcame EPI, food sensitivies, environmental allergies but we lost the cancer battle. DOC was dx with hemangiosarcoma 5/2022 and crossed the rainbow bridge July 24, 2022. He is and always will be the love of my life, my soulmate, my heart dog.
