Poorly poohs
Poorly poohs
Kenzies poo has been inconsistent for the last 3 weeks. We initially thought it was due to stress from all the fireworks. Started to get worse 6 days ago with grumbly tummy etc. Upped the Tylan to 1/4 tsp twice a day. 6 days on it is now worse, 3 times this morning all the RUNS.
Should we try upping the enzymes?

Kenzie diagnosed Sept 2015. Fed 3 times a day on Millies Wolfheart, Panzym enzymes 1+ tsp per 120grams food, 1/8 tsp tylan twice a day, altenate 1/2 b12 per day. Also on 1 previcox a day for arthritis in paws and 1 Apoquel for allergies. Diagnosed with poor heart contractibility Sept 2020, on 1 Vetmedin twice a day. 2nd heart scan March 21 shows little deterioration so appear to be working.

Do you happen to have any powdered slippery elm? You could try adding it in twice a day.

Re: Poorly poohs
Maybe tylan isn’t effective bug, this bug, ask for oxytetracycline.
It could also be a bacteria from puddles with all the rain we’ve had, loads of animal/ bird poo.
What colour is the poo?
I don’t think extra enzymes will help, the gut spasms just blast everything through.

Springer spaniel Marti had Epi, PLE , MMM just to confuse me. She lived till 12yrs, chubby and happy despite eight years of epi.
Capsule enzymes suited her best. B12 supplements made her into a new dog!
After a cocker with PLN kidney disease, I now have two healthy rescues, a lively, suicidal , small ginger terrier, adopted with pneumonia, and gum disease needing nearly all his teeth out, and a fluffy grey toy poodle/terrier from Greece.

Normal poo colour. Slightly better today, pick upable. No parasites. Have tried slippery elm previously, not good.

Re: Poorly poohs
I agree with Patsy on trying another antibiotic. Whenever Kolby has had a bad setback like you are describing, we have gone from tylan to metronidazole (flagyl) and it turns it around.
Let us know how it goes. So distressing.

Re: Poorly poohs
So do we just ask the vet for another anti biotic and stop the Tylan?

Re: Poorly poohs
Stress can drop the B12 levels which would upset the digestive system and may open the door for all the upset. I used to give Sarge an extra B12 shot before stressful events and again after if needed.
Tylan is an antibiotic dosed per weight of the pet. If you were using it on a lower dose for keeping the gut bacteria under control it may be helpful to go back to the right dose.
Hopefully things are back to normal soon.

Re: Poorly poohs
Sorry things have gone south. Are you consistently giving B12? I agree with Barb, if you're on Tylan and things have gone south I would stop the Tylan and try Metro - if you don't see an improvement then it could be the food and you might need to try something different even if you've been on it for a while.
