Update on Ruby
Update on Ruby
Hi,
My Ruby is doing well.
If you have any need for Creon ( no prescription needed)you can contact Chemist Warehouse look them up on the web I paid $31.69 for 100 capsules ...
Now I have a two questions. Have any of you dealt with dry skin almost no hair on the body? Did you ever use olive oil (5 drops) to one cup of water and massage in. I just started to do this for Ruby. I used some on my dog Kody in almost bare spot and his hair grew back. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this? My dog Ruby lost almost all of her hair along sides and back from a Dog Groomer who shampooed her 3 times with medicated shampooed (scream).... that was a year ago .....all the hair has still not grown in trying but not really not doing well. I had tried to use Vetricyn wound stuff on her but didn't do any good as far as dryness goes.
Her eyes had mucus in them tried and us Vetrcyn made for eyes didn't help. Now I am just using plain water on a cotton balls to get the mucus out and take the crustiness away. Seems to be working. Any suggestions??

Re: Update on Ruby
Hi Marily,
So glad to hear that Ruby is doing well... with her diabetes.
I have not use oil but i have used calendula salve (oil paste made from the calendula flower) and it helped greatly with the raw spots and hair grew back.
Thankfully i don't have any experience with eye issues...............

Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........
Re: Update on Ruby
Thanks for your info about Brolene. Did you use it long?. I would think to try it in one eye first to see how she reacts.
And Olesia you probably forgot Ruby does not have diabetes thank God. But, that's o.k. you have so much to keep track of.
She is doing great on Creon and B12 with intrinsic factor. She is having trouble with her eyes so I may try the Brolene.
Ruby was in this years calendar for November thank you show much for using her picture.

Re: Update on Ruby
Hi Marilyn. So glad Ruby is doing well. Are you giving Vitamin E? Recent research has shown that EPI dogs are lacking in fat soluble vitamins such as Vitamin E - which is also supposed to help the skin. As for eye gunk - the only time my boy gets eye gunk is when he's dealing with environmental issues. I don't treat it with anything but he gets Zyrtec 10mg to help with environmental allergies.

DOC taught me so much and together we battled and overcame EPI, food sensitivies, environmental allergies but we lost the cancer battle. DOC was dx with hemangiosarcoma 5/2022 and crossed the rainbow bridge July 24, 2022. He is and always will be the love of my life, my soulmate, my heart dog.
Re: Update on Ruby
Thanks for your responses. Where can I get Brolene from? I will check out Petsmart and Petco and see if they have it. Ruby is rubbing her eye and irritating around her one eye. Poor baby. I put some polyspiron around the eye area.
I started to use olive oil and water mixed on her dry skin and it seems to be working. Softening up her skin seem like her hair is growing out more I hope looks better. My poor baby.

Re: Update on Ruby
Hi Marilyn. I'm not sure where to buy Brolene as I've never used it but might want to check your local nutrition store?? Glad to hear Ruby's skin/hair is doing better with the olive oil.

I checked Petco and Petsmart they don't know what it is also. So Maybe Jean will come back on and be able to direct me where to purchase it. THanks for all your help.
