Constipated Not Constipated

Post by Montgomery » 11 May 2020, 14:56

Hey all,
So this has been going on awhile, but it seems to be getting worse. The veterinarian kind of shook her head and prescribed something that was supposed to make his bowels move better but it was impossible to actually give it to him because of the timing of his enzymes and Tylosin.
Montgomery's stools are formed and generally a little bit softer than those of the other cats but not concerning. He has such a hard time actually going to the bathroom. He strains, growls, sometimes will even urinate trying, until it finally all comes flying out (and I mean flying) at once. Then he usually wants to nap for a couple of hours. It took a long time to diagnose him. I have a feeling nerve damage and/or muscle damage comes into play here. Has anyone else ever dealt with this? Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Montgomery was born 20 March 2012. He eats extra lean ground chicken, lean ground pork and lean ground beef completed with Alnutrin and freeze-dried chicken liver, with hard-cooked egg. He gets two size zero capsules of Enzyme Diane's enzymes at each of his six meals, and a size four capsule of Tylan three times a day. He's a fierce little Spitfire with a roaring Merlin engine.

Oh I am sorry. That sounds painful. I usually give pumpkin for either but don't know if it will help in Montgomery's case.

Pumpkin doesn't seem to make a difference with him. We've tried it a few times in the past. Slippery elm makes him sick.

No, its not a furball. Its hard to explain. He has a difficult time actually making the stool come out, is that better? He'll strain and strain, and finally it all comes shooting out. It takes forever. I think its a nerve or muscle thing...Maybe?

Awww that sounds painful - I'm so sorry. I wish I had some advice for you but I've never dealt with anything like this. I'll keep you both in my prayers - please keep us updated.
