My 7 yr old GSD has been on Pancreplus for 2 yrs for EPI. She has been having frequent bouts of diarrhea. My vet prescribed metronidazole. I emailed my vet about Tylan and she stated she thought it was difficult to get. Is this True.?
Thanks,
Pam

Hi Pam,

It apparently has just been discontinued in Australia, so I'm afraid our Australian members are out of luck, but we have no problem here. That's a good thing, too, because tylan is the preferred antibiotic for SID (small intestinal dysbiosis). You can order it from Chewy and I'm sure other places, as well. You do need a prescription from your vet.

Please let your vet know she can get TYLAN (made by Elanco) https://www.chewy.com/tylan-soluble-powder/dp/173768
or
TYLOSIN TARTRATE (made by Vet One) https://www.medi-vet.com/VetOne-Tylosin ... /19172.htm
Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

Good morning from the UK

We used Tylan for 9 years , Metronadazole was only given for a week at most because of its possible toxicity, my vet was very cautious

I am pleased that you can get it still across the pond

Tylan is weight of dog dosed

https://epi4dogs.com/antibiotics/

And recommended to be given 12 hours ish apart probably with food, dont rub your eyes after touching it, it STINGS !

Good luck

Hi and welcome to our EPI family. You can also get Tylan without prescription from Froy's and Jed's Pigeon Supply - also some Tractor Supply stores I believe. Please remember with Tylan you need to give it twice a day for 45 days and then slowly wean off - don't quit cold turkey.
Madelon, owned by DOC. DOC dx EPI 5/2015 = TLI < .4, B12 406; Folate >24. DOC taught me so much and together we battled and overcame EPI, food sensitivies, environmental allergies but we lost the cancer battle. DOC was dx with hemangiosarcoma 5/2022 and crossed the rainbow bridge July 24, 2022. He is and always will be the love of my life, my soulmate, my heart dog.
