the one thing is, if your dogs parents had EPI then it could have been passed on genetically

we have had dogs as young as this tested positive for EPI, and younger, My vet told me my Kara at 14 months old was too young and to treat for IBD, so I stood my ground "its your dog your money"

he came back a few days later with a positive result, and fortunately my regular vet returned from holiday and he has treated EPI since the 80's Tylan is the way forward for EPI and other gastro issues, its a mild but effective antibiotic, with no known side effects

Never give a probiotic with the metronidazole antibiotic(Flagyl) as the Metro will kill all the probiotic bacteria..... with chronic digestive issues, Metronidazole should never be given... but if it is given along with probiotics... give the probiotics at least 2 hours away from the Metronidazole.

On the flip side, Tylan antibiotic is a macrolide antibiotic and does NOT kill all the bacteria, so therefor you can give Tylan and probiotics all together.

To keep it simple, we often just tell people to give probiotics at least 2 hours away from any antibiotic.... that way if you can't remember this, but just not giving them together you'll be okay....

Read all the threads, and i strongly agree, your vet should test Duke for EPI, make sure you food fast him 12 hours prior to the blood being drawn for the TLI test.
It is only puppies that are only a month or younger that they are hesitant to do a TLI blood test on... anything after that is appropriate................
if your vet still refuses, i'd seriously consider going to another vet to have the test done.

And YES!!!! get a sample batch of enzymes from EzymeDiane.... the great thing about the enzymes is that you can be giving them to a dog and it will not interfere with the blood draw for the TLI..... ALSO.... even if a dog does not have EPI..... it will not hurt to give the enzymes on a temporary basis....you just do not want to keep a dog on them forever if they do not have EPI or a situation where it is needed........
