Tylan Lifer...

Post by Montgomery » 17 Sep 2022, 13:22

Well, we tried taking Montgomery off the Tylan. We did it really slowly. It took four months. The last few days, he's been one sick little tabby, so back on the tylan...Damn it. He had his first bath in over a year today. He is not eating by himself and has been spoon-fed for two days. We've taken the beef out of his diet and put him back to a bland chicken and egg (otherwise known as the Paul Simon). So frustrated.
He seems happier now that he's had his bath, though. He made the most pathetic little mews while in the sink. He did brighten when Mr. Comb made an appearance. I can't blow-dry him anymore because he's quite afraid of the hair-dryer.
Montgomery was born 20 March 2012. He eats extra lean ground chicken, lean ground pork and lean ground beef completed with Alnutrin and freeze-dried chicken liver, with hard-cooked egg. He gets two size zero capsules of Enzyme Diane's enzymes at each of his six meals, and a size four capsule of Tylan three times a day. He's a fierce little Spitfire with a roaring Merlin engine.

Every time I try reducing Tucker's 1/32nd t. daily, the room fills with green clouds & everyone except Tuck clears out. I'm OK with it, though. --- P
Tucker was a shepherd/lab mix--- TLI 1.3, Folate 9.7, Cobalamin 666, Lipase 38. Took Diane's Enzymes 4 teaspoons/day, Wonderlabs B12 one capsule per day, and Tylan 1/16 teaspoon/ morning (to hold SID at bay). Taste of the Wild High Prairie, 1 1/2 cups/day, with a total of 4 cups of Fresh Pet. Stopped eating everything in sight, and went from 60 to 85 pounds! Tucker was my boyfriend, and my husband was OK with that. Tucker succumbed to hemangiosarcoma, but we cherished every day we had with that wonderful, beautiful boy. I will always, always miss my sweet big boy.

ahhh geez... and he was doing so good.... for a while...................... well.. at least you tried.
Some pets jut HAVE to be on a maintenance dose forever. At least it's something that actually works .

He's a bit better than he was yesterday, but he's still feeling cruddy. Is it really safe to be on an antibiotic for so long?

actually yes it is safe... not the best thing only because over a long, long period of time..... Tylan will eventually "end" bacterial strains in the gut (since it inhibits bacterial reproduction) , but if the dog or cat cannot go without it and has constant diarrhea, then doing maintenance Tylan for life is the better option ....

I knew it might be impossible to have him off of it. His small intestine is so malformed, it just invites bacteria to hang out. Still, I hoped he could get off the tylan. Thanks, Olesia. At least I know I'm not harming him with it.

it is so hard... and you did the best thing.... you TRIED... to get him off Tylan ... sometimes it just isn't feasible and they have to stay on tylan for life....
