EPI DX and not Lymphoma- are they common together?
Hello all, I'm Debbie with questions...We have a 5 year old Australian Shepherd that was diagnosed with EPI 2 1/2 years ago. She has been doing great once stabilized with food, enzymes and all.
Today we went to the vet for annual shots, etc. I told the vet that she'd been breathing a little heavier than normal, almost snoring. Bella was taken back in and they took x-rays and said her heart wasn't enlarged or was any other organ from that view. The Vet found several enlarged lymph nodes. They took blood and will take more blood & bone marrow next week and send it off to specialist labs. The vet said it looks like lymphoma and that he'd call us tomorrow (Saturday) to discuss further.
I want to know if there are other families with EPI dogs who develop Lymphoma? Is this a common problem? Is there a connection between EPI and lymphoma??? I've sorted on lymphoma and seen other references, but nothing like I am asking.
I am heartbroken and looking for answers. I know there are 2 main types of Lymphoma in dogs. Reading various sources that even with months chemo, medication, and possible radiation the dog may only live 6 -12 months longer. AND at her current status, with no medical intervention other than her regular EPI treatments) she might only live 4-6 WEEKS! I'm in shock. Weeks??!!
Thanks for your help and reading my post.

Re: EPI DX and not Lymphoma- are they common together?
Ooh that's sooo devastating! Very scary and very sad.
I don't *think* there's a correlation between EPI and lymphoma. At time of diagnosis, my vet did want yo rule out lymphoma, but simply because it could cause some of the same symptoms (in our case pooping out undigested meat). I was not told of any correlation.
And many EPI dogs go on to live long and happy lives.
I don't know much about chemo options in dogs. But I have heard of some doing ozone therapy with great results! (Some in combination with chemo. Some just the ozone therapy alone).
My heart goes out to you. I know I would be a real basket case!

Oh NO!!!! I m so so sorry to hear this.... i cannot image what you are going thru.
But i too have to echo what Andrea said..... as far as i know, there is not a correlation between EPI and Lymphoma.... however, yes, there have been cases over the years of some EPI dogs developing Lymphoma.... but just a handful... not a number that is cause for alarm.
Bella is such a young dog, this just doesn't seem fair. Unfortunately, Lymphoma is not something i am well versed in.
However.... what you might want to do is go on Google Scholar (free) and type in Canine Lymphoma to see all the actual research done on this.... it is a much better way than just looking up stuff on "Dr. Google" and read the latest. I went on and asked for research from 2019 to current... and this is what bubble up.

I truly hope that something can be done! Do look into the ozone therapy that Andrea suggested.....it might be something to consider...
Sending you many comforting hugs

Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

Re: EPI DX and now Lymphoma- are they common together?
Thanks to everyone for your responses. We are awaiting further test results from our vet. I will certainly ask him if Ozone treatment would help her and I have a medication 'Tanovea' to check with him on also.I appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers and will let you know what I find out.

The diagnosis of lymphoma can be devastating, but it's important to remember that every case is unique, and treatment options will depend on the type and stage of lymphoma, as well as the overall health of the dog. While chemotherapy is often the recommended treatment for lymphoma, some owners choose to manage the disease with palliative care, which can improve the quality of life for the dog and extend their lifespan.Bella’s Family wrote: ↑10 Feb 2023, 23:29https://geometrydashlite.io

My dog has undergone 1st chemotherapy but I realize that he is getting weaker day by day. How to prolong life as much as possible right now?Ducke1981 wrote: ↑24 Feb 2023, 10:12The diagnosis of lymphoma can be devastating, but it's important to remember that every case is unique, and treatment options will depend on the type and stage of lymphoma, as well as the overall health of the dog.
