EPI and feeding

Post by Blktbss07 » 25 Jan 2024, 19:30

Newly diagnosed GSD with EPI, I've been reading tons and I'm sure it has been asked I just can't find it.

My GSD refuses to eat the food with EPIzyme on it. I've tried everything I can think of on top of the food to mask it. Can I put the powder into a capsule and give it that way?

Thanks!

You sure can. I do not completely remember the size, but I think it's a size 0 capsule? Obviously, it depends on how much enzyme they need.

That is an example. You can get whichever one you want. You could also try a stinky topper, white fish, tuna something like that.

when giving the powder camouflaged in capsules...... try to give a pinch extra enzymes.

FYI the “00” size capsule equals 1/8 teaspoon of Tylan powder.

It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

That's right. 5 00 capsules equal 1 teaspoon. You will need to use a lot but you can. You could also look into the tablets of enzymes. You can also try a stronger enzyme. https://enzymediane.com/product/pancrea ... e-product/
Hopefully you can use less enzymes.

I used Epizyme way back with Mickey and it smelled strongly oh cat urine.
Want to be clesr on this part:

Olesia recommended "00" capsules which you will need to fill 8 of them plus one extra.

Eddiespaghetti recommended "0" capsules which you would need to fill 5 of them plus one extra.

The extra is added as some enzyme will not make it through the stomach acid in this form like it does when incubated.

A teaspoon is about 5ML, it's 4.92 or something like that. It will take a lot, but it's better than them not eating.

I appreciate the replys everyone!

Last question I promise lol.

So does it have to be with meals? As of now he doesn't always want to eat. So if he doesn't want to eat how can I make sure he gets it?

Maybe a stupid question lol

Are you talking about the enzymes? You only give them on a meal or in capsules right before a meal.

Yea the enzymes. So if he doesn't want to eat his meal, then no need to worry about giving him Enzymes?
