if you want, just go to Walmart and buy a cheap cake icing decorating kit...... use one of the metal funnels to pour the designated enzymes into the empty gel cap.....

or ........................do what i do cut a small square of paper (about 5" x5") and shape into a funnel... and use this as your "tool"

Regarding the Tylan dose you are giving..... you are giving too low of a dose...... a 30lb dog should be receiving 375 mg twice a day.

These are Tylan capsules.... correct????? If so... i would give 1 capsule + (break open another capsule and split in thirds- or split in half-you do not have to be exact.... ) and give another either another 1/2 capsule.... or.... another 1/3 capsule.... whichever you are more comfortable with. I personally would give the 1/2 simply because you have a lot of wiggle room with Tylan and some dogs actually do better with a pinch more just to initially address the situation and then you can back off.

I suspect that the under-dosing of the Tylan might be "part" of the problem.... you mentioned tummy noises / that is SID... and with some dogs, when their tummy hurts they are not so keen about eating, even when they are hungry.... SO...............i would definitely increase the Tylan dose next.

Give this a few days (maybe 4 or 5) and then do a proof... try giving the enzymes directly on the food......

Blurgh... i do NOT understand why the vet wouldn't have given me a high enough dose. Poor pup hasn't eaten a full meal in over a week... Poor mom wants to burst into tears. Last night, she was clearly uncomfortable. I gave her some Gabapentin and she calmed down, but i'm also unsure of using this off and on so much.

Do you know of anywhere that sells capsules OTC? I know I can order some off amazon prime, but if i can get some today, i'd prefer it... Any idea about sizes? 1/4 a tsp of enzymes required 6 vitamin b12 capsules. I find that crazy!

So, plan is: Find capsules asap. increase tylan dosage to 1.5 capsules worth. Put enzymes in capsules and hope for the best.

Can i offer her some enzyme free Purina EN gastro wet food? I know she wouldn't be getting all of the nutritional value, btu since her TLI level was 2.6 when last checked in august, perhaps she would still get some? Or would this make the SID worse? She has probably had a lot of topper foods without enzymes in the past week which may not be helping the situation either.

hi

have a look at this link and scroll down to the capsules

Amazon Prime over here sometimes offers same day delivery (uk)

it also gives you the amount of Tylan that should be given per weight of dog

Do not give any food without enzymes, the result of 2.6 is almost a positive for EPI

Hey Jean,

Thanks for the response. I don't see a link, but I am searching gelatin capsules in 00 and 000 size. I figure between this and trying to put the 1/2 tsp of enzymes in a capsule, those sizes should work best?!

YALL THIS IS EXHAUSTING! Thanks for all the continued support.

I will avoid any food without enzymes. I just am not sure at what point i need to be concerned about her not eating... like how many days... Hopefully, I can put the enzymes in capsules and increase the tylan and things will improve!

Does b12 need to be emptied onto food or can it be taken in a capsule?

Caroline,

I am sending you some CREON tomorrow.

Your vet did check her out to make sure there is no kidney issues going on... correct???

And yes... she is under-dosed with the Tylan...and this might be a big part of the "i don't want to eat" issue.

ANd yes.... it can be very exhausting when you still haven't happened upon the magic balance of stuff... actually very frustrating.... but hopefully with the increased Tylan and using CREON (for now) maybe this will help get her back on track.

Off topic question-- If my dog hates one type of powder enzyme, is it likely that she will dislike them all or do they differ in taste/smell by brand?

Tonight I SLOWLY go her to eat a full meal by putting enzymes in a million capsules... It was slow and definitely not sustainable long term, but I am so happy she ate a full meal! She's currently snuggled up to me and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a pain free evening!
I always worry about kidney issues because she is a Wheaten Terrier and they are prone to a couple of them. She has historically also always consumed a lot of water which made me nervous. I was told that really the concern is if there is a significant change in water consumption. I had her tested several years back and they told me everything looked normal.

More recently, i checked in with the internal medicine vet did a bunch of tests and he looked at her numbers and said, her urine "doesn’t seem to be losing any protein so that’s good sign…I don't have any kidney concerns at this point". SO... i don't think so?

Your pup is so lucky to have you! Your persistence will pay off. Hang in there.

You can just pop the B12 pill in with the enzymed food right before you feed her. You don't have to open it.
