Oh WOW Andrea.... Kudo's to your for contacting the company to complain and to actually have them review the situation and fix it... that's impressive!
Not so impressive. I had gone into the pet store looking for supplements or toppers that might help with weight gain (before dx). The clerk working there was convinced that my meals were not balanced, and that's why he was losing weight. I questioned what was in their raw food that made it more balanced than what I could do. She just said they have the nutritionists and know what to do to make it balanced.
I agreed to look at what they had, and if it looked decent, I could try it for a couple of weeks to see if it helped with weight gain. We went over the labels together, and looked at their website. I was shocked, and I said I can't feed that! To ke that is not balanced at all, and explained my concerns. She couldn't answer it herself, and contacted the manufacturer for answers. They tried saying some stuff, which she relayed to me. I refuted that. In the end she gave me the phone to speak to them. I explained my concerns, which could not be answered to my satisfaction; so I opted not to try that food.
But in the end, the best most balanced food in the world wasn't going to help. He didn't have the enzymes required to absorb any of it.
Chance was my 4 legged soul mate. My mobility assist service dog. Pure yellow Lab, 75 lbs. After struggling with weight all his life, finally dx with EPI. cTLI < 1, folate and B12 very low. Fed Raw. Maintained with Creon, Garden of Life probiotic and intermittent calcium bentonite clay. (Tylosin was a big nightmare for him)!
Rylee is Chance's successor; also pure Yellow/Fox red Lab. Started with symptoms at 8 weeks. At 6 months of age, also prescribed Creon due to suspected EPI (due to passing large amounts of undigested food). Currently suspected of blockages in pancreatic ducts. She is maintained VERY nicely on Creon and probiotics. Also raw fed.

Still kudo's to you! you checked it out and found it wasn't suitable..... and told the company your concerns. A lot of folks would just let it go.

I do have Taurine on hand but never used kelp before. According to the person I bought the meat some she said it has very little fat.
If giving kelp and taurine would that just be once a day no matter how often she eats? Where do you buy the kelp?
Also, if I was to give her green trip would I still need the kelp and taurine? Does green tripe contain carbs, fiber etc.

Melanie,
I honestly do not know the answer to your question about Raw Green Tripe....and if you would still need to give Taurine and Kelp... i suggest you contact
the owners at GreenTripe.com :
[email protected] or call us at (669) 205-7222 if you have any questions.
They are the most knowledgeable people that i know of regarding raw green tripe... and if you are interested they also sell raw pancreas too for EPI dogs
For kelp (when i made home-made dog food that i personally included everything in and back then i did not use Annamaet Enhance.... i got my kelp powder from NOW (online)

Green tripe contains next to no trace minerals, and no iodine. It's nutritious, but not enough. For fat, ir depends on where it's sourced. Some companies trim the fat, and sell it with virtually low fat. Others just sell it as is. That has more fats. It doesn't replace the ALA and omega requirements, but selling it fat inclusive does help give fat the body needs for energy, and help make it easier to maintain weight. I personally try to get it fat inclusive when possible.
Taurine and ground kelp, I buy from Amazon.

I forgot your question on dosing frequency.
It's up yo you. I am lazy and add it all to a batch of food when I make it. So it's decided over 2 meals.
But many people do just mix it all in once a day. And that's fine too!
For ALA and omega 3, I do add that into one meal. For ALA, I have sunflower lecithin choline caplets. It's easy popping a pill on the food. Last batch I did coconut oil. I still just put a dollop of that on food once a day. The fish oil, I do a squirt once a day (in addition to fresh wild caught salmon fish in the food)

You guys are AMAZING! Do you feed yourselves as well as you feed your dogs???
Years ago I followed a cookbook (human) called Nourishing Traditions, based on the findings of Dr. Weston A. Price, and I remember the author scoffing at the Paleo diet for being low fat; she pointed out that "cave people" and wild animals at a kill always went for the nutrient & fat-rich organ meats first.
She also had a book called Eat Fat/Lose Fat, which I did, and did. Currently I am following the eat chocolate/gain weight diet.
But seriously, I am so impressed by all of your care & knowledge, and I think it's facinating to see what you do. You may just inspire me to do better by everyone in my household!

Tucker was a shepherd mix--- TLI 1.3, Folate 9.7, Cobalamin 666, Lipase 38. Diane's Enzymes 4 t/day, B12 1 capsule/day, and Tylan 1/16 teaspoon/day. Taste of the Wild High Prairie, 4 c/day. 60 to 85 pounds! Tucker succumbed to hemangiosarcoma Nov. 2023. I will always, always miss my sweet big boy.
Now there's Nina. 5 year old GSD. We have had this heart healer since April 2024. TLI 1.0 B12 323. Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream 4c/day, 4 teaspoons 6X Enzyme Diane/day, 1 Wonderlabs B12/day. 2 T cottage cheese a.m., 1 boiled egg p.m.
