They can get a telephone referral from Liverpool small animal hospital. for advice

we also use the wet trays as a topper for Kara, she has grain free James Wellbeloved grain free lamb and veg, as a main food

two trays would weigh 395x 2 grams, so thats 790 grams, plus german shepherd biscuits, so 2 Lypex is probaly not enough, I would be temped to give 3, in fact definitely

what are the German Shepherd biscuits you mention

so, she is struggling with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, this can be combated by the correct enzymes, but needs to be got rid of, have the vets talked to you about antibiotics over here Oxytetracycline is the biggie, but the recommendation here is a course of Tylan, which you can get via the vet, or on prescription from Vio Vet, on line and that is twice daily for 45 days depending on weight

have you asked your vet to explain why they are suggesting what they are ?

its perfectly possible she has gained an intollerance for chicken, my girl did, its weird

as for treats, its not adviseable to give any treats, anything that goes into the mouth MUST be enzymed,

keep a journal and record everything

When you have a pet with a complicated diagnosis like epi, it helps to see just one vet, when you are confident they know what they are doing , or are discussing it with you. With the large groups, with part timers, they depend on the notes passed on to them, and can’t relate personally with the condition of the dog,or recall any important discussions you’ve had. You need a good relationship.
One of my previous dogs saw three different people, and the different early signs of kidney disease didn’t connect up in their notes, , meaning too much time was lost, and so was he.

With vets, you are providing their income and Range rovers, you employ them. I seriously think that some of them should be reported for missed diagnoses. Now you are getting to know epi, double check everything they say, epi4dogs has got the right treatment worked out through the expertise of top research institutes and the experience of thousands of members who struggled like you.
As I say to everyone, you are now on an assertiveness course!

You are in good hands with Patsy and Jean and our UK members. I just wanted to welcome you and endorse keeping a detailed journal of everything you give Rio each day (food, enzymes, antibiotics, B12) the amounts and the resulting poos. This will help you to figure out what is working and what needs to be tweaked.

The beginning stage is the hardest when you are trying to get everything balanced. It will get easier and will become just part of your day. Try not to feel overwhelmed, but we understand if you do. We have all been where you are. Hang in there. Rio is lucky to have you.

A few days in the new routine, any improvement?

Hey! Yes, huge improvement thank you, thanks to Jean and Suj!! We’re getting solid poi’s now!! Have written a complaint letter to her ‘old’ vet, registered her with a recommended one who she due to see on Friday so all thanks to this forum and finding all you angels, my girl is in the mend!!

Can’t thank you all enough, I really can’t.

The long and short of it was I was told 2 x lyoex once a day and not with every meal - I’m still in shock!! But glad we’re getting somewhere now, and it’s only been 3 days since joining and posting!

Good to hear that his poos are decent .... when the poos are good, that means that pretty much the EPI protocol is in good balance. And that is the trick with these dogs, it is all about finding the right balance of enzymes, food, B12 and SID treatment if needed whether it is prebiotics or prebiotics & Probiotics or the right antibiotic.

One thing i do want to mention thou.... regarding the B12... with over 80% of all EPI dogs they need B12 supplementation. HOWEVER once you bring up the B12 levels to upper mid range.... you cannot stop the B12 but rather figure out a maintenance dose that Rio will need for life.... many of use opt to go with oral B12 for the maintenance part. I just don't want to see you get Rio all straightened out.. and then over time, things slide backwards because he B12 maintenance was overlooked.......... (if he started his EPI journey with low B12).
