Thanks Marilyn, SO glad to hear that Ruby is doing well..

Thank you for that link... i started to check it out yesterday.... but didn't get to finish.... However i DO think that what type of food AND the quality of the food (less preservative, chemicals, etc) can have a HUGE effect on Diabetes!
Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

Madelon, owned by DOC. DOC dx EPI 5/2015 = TLI < .4, B12 406; Folate >24. DOC taught me so much and together we battled and overcame EPI, food sensitivies, environmental allergies but we lost the cancer battle. DOC was dx with hemangiosarcoma 5/2022 and crossed the rainbow bridge July 24, 2022. He is and always will be the love of my life, my soulmate, my heart dog.

Glad to hear back from all of you. I was hospitalize related to diabetes. Doing well now. I researched a lot and realized that carbs are some thing to really watch out for. I think it would be the same for dogs with this problem. Low carb diet and portion control. What do you think about that for our dogs that have EPI and diabetes? Any thoughts on this?

To answer a question about Ruby's hair. NO it has been very difficult I have just recently tried putting Olive Oil on her very small amount massage it in her skin and pat her with a paper towel .... It makes her skin so soft since she doesn't have hair like before. Some of her hair seems to be growing in. But, nothing like before . Her skin had become very dry and almost a dark black look. But, has become softer now. Poor baby. Also, her eyes keep getting mucous in them. I have tried a saline solution of salt and warm water. But, that doesn't seem to work very well. So I bought some Vetricyn eye wash and am trying that on her. It seems to be working some . It has just been a few days. I know probably go to the vet. But, every time I go whatever they prescribe seems to have side effects for Ruby. Take care everyone.

Working with small children, I am often exposed to conjunctivitis, so whenever I feel an eye irritation coming on, I start putting coconut oil in my eyes a couple of times a day. It has all those wonderful properties, it is soothing, and it softens up all those crusties so they wipe right off. There are no side effects, either. I am just remembering one of my dogs injured his eye, and my vet did tell me to use it on him, too. Maybe give it a try, since you like holistic.---Pam in Gainesville
Tucker was a shepherd mix--- TLI 1.3, Folate 9.7, Cobalamin 666, Lipase 38. Diane's Enzymes 4 t/day, B12 1 capsule/day, and Tylan 1/16 teaspoon/day. Taste of the Wild High Prairie, 4 c/day. 60 to 85 pounds! Tucker succumbed to hemangiosarcoma Nov. 2023. I will always, always miss my sweet big boy.

Now there's Nina. 5 year old GSD. TLI 1.0 B12 323. We are still tweaking her routine, and getting lots of help from the forum. She is klutzy and goofy, and we love her dearly, too.

Thank you. I have a problem with the coconut thing. I tried coconut on Ruby years ago and it didn't do well for her body. I thank you for your input. Maybe, something else will be suggested. I used Vetricyn on her eyes and now around her eyes are swollen and she must have rubbed her eyes real hard. This stuff must not agree with her either. So I just put on polysporin to get the swelling etc. healed. What a mess. Poor baby .
